What is coaching?
Coaching, counselling, and mentoring are often used interchangeably — but they serve very different purposes. Knowing the difference helps you understand exactly what you're getting when you work with Hatch Growth.
Coaching
Coaching is forward-focused and client-led. The coach doesn't have the answers — you do. My role is to ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and help you get clear on your goals and what's holding you back, so you can find your own path forward.
Counselling
Counselling is therapeutic and often past-focused. It's typically delivered by a registered psychologist or counsellor and is designed to help people process emotional difficulties, trauma, or mental health conditions.
If you or a team member needs this kind of support, Hatch Growth will always recommend a qualified mental health professional rather than attempting to provide this service.
Mentoring
Mentoring is advice-based and experience-led. A mentor typically has direct experience in your field and offers guidance based on what's worked for them.
